This article discusses the problem of quality of teaching in the subject of chemistry. The main problem in teaching the subject is the insufficient development of intellectual and creative abilities among students. To develop intellectual and creative abilities in the subject of chemistry, we have proposed conducting elective courses and solving Olympiad problems in the subject ҺChemistryһ. School Olympiads in the academic subject ҺChemistryһ are held as additional extracurricular activities. The main goal of the study is to develop a methodology for developing intellectual and creative abilities among students in the subject ҺChemistryһ. The objective of the study is to develop a methodological model and methodology for achieving intellectual results of students through the school Olympiad in chemistry. When conducting the study, the need to study the problem associated with preparing students for subject Olympiads in the subject ҺChemistryһ was substantiated, effective methods and methods of preparation were identified, which further contribute to the formation of scientific thinking in students. The study presents examples of Olympiad problems, a plan for the preparation, organization and conduct of an elective course in the subject ҺChemistryһ. When working according to the developed plan, students will develop skills in solving non-standard problems using a creative approach. Training was conducted with solving Olympiad problems and participating in quizzes. After the training stage, a control was carried out to identify the level of development of figurative memory and intellectual skills. The development of figurative memory after the training stage is distributed as follows: for the control group the level was 28,57 %, for the experimental group 43,60 %. The level of development of intellectual skills was also determined: for the control group it was 23,80 %, for the experimental group it was 47,90 %. Thus, we can conclude that when solving Olympiad problems during chemistry lessons, students will be motivated and interested in learning the subject, and will be able to master new material faster and more efficiently.
